ABOUT US
We are part of a group of United Reformed Churches comprising our sister church in Pound Hill, Horsham URC and Moat Church, East Grinstead. We also belong to the ecumenical ‘Churches Together in West Crawley’
Our roots come from the Congregational Church and our history goes back to 1856 when a small group of people started regular worship in hired premises in what was then a small town of 2,000 inhabitants. Two years later a church was built on a site in Robinson Road near the centre of town, and in 1863 the Crawley Congregational Church was formed.
A century later, the development of Crawley New Town in 1958 led the Church to think about re-locating to make way for new buildings and roads. Finally on 1st February 1962 building began on a new church in Ifield on the west side of the town. This was eventually renamed Trinity Congregational Church.
Shortly after, in 1972, the union took place of the Congregational, Presbyterian and Churches of Christ, which collectively became the United Reformed Church; thus we are now known as Trinity United Reformed Church.
We may be small in number but we have big ideas! Our aim is to engage as many of our members (or adherents) as would like to be involved in all areas of activity and worship. We are a Fair Trade church and actively support the Christian Aid Commitment for Life programme.
Five things Trinity is here for:
- To provide facilities for Christian worship and fellowship
- To build up the fellowship of our members and adherents by providing the framework and facilities for study and exploration of the faith.
- To make our premises available to the local community as an outward expression of God’s love and care.
- To witness to the community that God’s love is for all.
- To engage with other Christian churches and fellowships in order to present a united Christian voice in our neighbourhood.
